Eunice G. May, 82, of Central Square passed away peacefully at home, March 30, 2018.
She was born April 4, 1935 in Cape Vincent, NY, to Willard and Laurene (Constance) Stumpf. She was raised on a dairy farm in a hard-working family where nothing came easy. For example, she and her siblings raised turkeys just to have some money of their own. After graduating from Cape Vincent High School, she moved to Rochester, NY, to attend business school and work for Rochester Telephone. While living there she met the love of her life, Fred May. The two met while holed up at a diner during a snow storm. She later moved back to Cape Vincent and worked at the Marine Midland Bank in Watertown. After a brief romance they were married at St. Vincent DePaul, Cape Vincent, and were married for almost 60 years.
She relished having family gatherings and planned many holiday parties geared especially for her grandchildren to enjoy.
She made many sacrifices through her life including caring for her own mother for many years, commuting many times between Albany and Cape Vincent.
Eunice is survived by her sister and best friend Phyllis Putnam, her brother Bill Stumpf (Karen), her sister-in-law Sharon Pekham (Norm), brother-in-law Paul May (Ruth) four children Greg (Joni), Steve (Stephanie), Mary Ann (Jim Mrowka) and David (Sue), 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Our family would like to reach out and thank all of those who helped care for our mother in her final days and made it possible to stay in her home. We had help from many family members who gave up their time, from Sandy Baker and Kathy Hendrickson who gave us help and support when we needed it most and to Hospice of Oswego County, who guided us when we needed help.
There are no calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held on April 28, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 592 South Main Street, Central Square. In lieu of flowers, please donate to THE FRIENDS OF OSWEGO COUNTY HOSPICE, INC., P.O. BOX 102, OSWEGO, NY 13126. (http://friendsofhospice.org/).
Traub Funeral Home Inc. in Central Square has care of the arrangements.
