Charles O. VanLiew, 84, of Central Square, New York passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 25, 2024 surrounded by his family. He was born April 11, 1940, son of the late Vernon and Ruth Wood VanLiew. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Harold Rowe.
Charles was a Class of 1959 graduate of Paul V. Moore High School in Central Square where he ran cross country and track. In his senior year he was the most decorated Track and Field participant in Oswego County. He owned and operated VanLiew Septic Service for over 50 years until retirement when he sold his business. He also ran VanLiew Farms, a Dairy farm with his son Jody until 1990.He served in the United States Army , stationed in Fort Bliss, Texas during the Vietnam Era. He was a life member and voluteer firefighter with the Caughdenoy Volunteer Fire Department, and member of Krusin' Car Club and Caughdenoy Faith and Family Church.
Charles is survived by his wife of 61 years, the former Donna Johnson; son, Jody; daughter, Deborah (David) VanLiew Holzwarth; grandchildren, Ryan (Emerald) Holzwarth, Ashley (Jake) Holzwarth Fortune and Megan (Steve) Holzwarth DenBleyker; three great grandsons, Anderson, Walter and Levi; brother, Richard (Peggy) VanLiew; several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be take place at 11:00am on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at the Caughdenoy Faith and Family Church (Caughdenoy UMC) 3 County Route 37, Central Square, New York. Burial will be private, There will be no calling hours.
