Bessie Morimoto Obituary

Bessie Yoko Morimoto, 85, peacefully passed on March 14, 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer.  Known to most as “Yo”, she often said that she lived a good life.  Dan and Yo enjoyed 63 blessed years together.

Born February 2, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Kanichi and Helen Kakoda.  She was a survivor of the WWII Japanese Internment Camp in Poston, Arizona and made a career in Food Service at Nationwide Insurance in Liverpool, New York.  She devoted most of her life to raising her daughters and taking care of her family.  She enjoyed playing softball, Hana (a Japanese card game), going to Bingo and taking trips to the casino.

Her proudest accomplishment was raising her five daughters: Cathy (David) McConnell, Lori (Michael, Deceased) Nash, Tricia Morimoto, Julie (Ed Hickman) Morimoto and Suzanne Morimoto.  In addition to her husband and children, she is survived by five siblings: Yae (Gunther) Jessat, Jean (Ed) Fujimoto, Kenny (Pauline) Kakoda, Yona (Karen) Kakoda and Shuin (Cindy) Kakoda, eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.  Tim Gibbons also held a special place in her heart.

Upon her wishes, there will be no services.

The Morimoto family would like to thank family, friends and neighbors for being so supportive and the dedicated staff at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, NY.
