Edward F. MaurerSeptember 26, 1955 ~ January 4, 2018 (age 62)
Edward Francis Maurer, 62, passed away January 4, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse.
Ed had a tough exterior, but his good heart and charming presence was quick to win anyone over. For much of his life, he was active in the field of masonry, gaining his introduction at a young age. By developing his craft through the years, he was later able to move on to self-employment, and retired from his own company, Maurer Masonry. He always took pride with satisfied customers and a job completed above expectation. In addition to providing for his family, he enjoyed spending time with them. He had a close relationship with his wife, daughter and son, and then more recently with his three year old grandson. He preferred the comforts of his own home, and could be found toiling around with cars and home improvement projects. He was always willing to use these self-taught mechanical and hands-on skills to help extended family members. He was loved by his family and his absence is already being felt. He will truly be missed.
He is predeceased by his parents Francis and Jeanne (Brown) Maurer and his sisters JoAnne Poirier and Margaret Fadden.
He is survived by his wife, Dawn (Gilbraith) Maurer, with whom he has spent the last 40 years, daughter Alicia, son Zachary, grandson Corey, sister Laura (Chuck) Vitello, and brother in law Jimmy Poirier. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 11am to 1pm Tuesday January 9 with a funeral service immediately following at 1pm.
