Elwood J Engelbrekt of Cleveland NY passed away June 28th, 2017 surrounded by his family and friends.  Elwood was born April 7th 1936 in Cleveland, NY to Mabel and John Engelbrekt, where Elwood resided and raised his family.  He was predeceased by his mother Mabel Engelbrekt and His sister Margie Lockerby.

He attended Central Square High School.  He was signed by the Cleveland Indians and played baseball for the Daytona Beach Islanders and the Fargo-Moorehead Twins.   Elwood owned Central Square Ford Mercury and Pulaski Ford Mercury. He was an avid golfer and one of his proudest moments was hitting a hole in one.  Elwood loved his family and friends unconditionally and his happiest moments were the times spent with his wife of 60 years, Barbara (Webb) Engelbrekt and his children Susan (Dan) Wheaton, Mary (Mike) Hart, Pam (Ross) Squadrito, Alan (Margaret) Engelbrekt and Rebecca (Kevin) Gribbon, his grandchildren Anthony, Kirsten, Zach, Katie, Gregory, Erik, Ben, Keating, Isabel, McKenna, his namesake Elwood, and  great- grandchildren Connor, Zoe, Mara, Austin, and Savannah, and his guardian angel and best friend Irv Loock, and his dog Bentley. 

Elwood was a member of the Cleveland Methodist Church.   His unique personality and overall kindness solidified many lasting friendships to those that knew him and he will remain the legend of the North Shore.  The legend has slid into home plate.  RIP papa, you old geezer.   

Private services were held for immediate family.  A Celebration of Life will be he held at the Cleveland United Methodist Church on August 5th at 11:00.
