James M. "Jim" Groff Sr., 69, of West Monroe, passed away peacefully on Thursday with loving family by his side, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Jim proudly served with the US Army during the Vietnam War. He retired from Verizon in 2002 after 32 years of service as a Cable Technician. Jim was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish, especially his yearly fishing trip with his sons to Butterfield Lake.
Jim is predeceased by his parents Kenneth and Rita Groff. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 49 years Karen (Ostrander) Groff; sons James M. Groff, Jr. (Rene Noyes) and Scott Groff; sisters Patricia (Charles) Gardner, Heidi (John) McGowan, Nancy (John) Crawford; brother Steven (Melissa) Groff; grandchildren Amber and Gregory Groff; and many nieces and nephews.
Calling Hours will be held on Tuesday, 5 to 7 pm, at Traub Funeral Home, 684 N. Main St., Central Square, with a Memorial Service to follow at 7 pm. Burial will be private in the Onondaga County Veteran's Cemetery.
