The family of John Clayton Thomas, 72, of Cicero, beloved husband and father, is deeply saddened to share the news of his passing on Wednesday, December 4, 2019.
John put up the bravest and strongest of fights against cancer...never giving in, never giving up. Please remember him as we all do…first and foremost, as a family-loving man…a man of quick and clever humor...and a humble man of infinite wisdom, who appreciated quiet opportunities to share it with everyone.
John was Owner/Designer/Distributor of gaskets and seals at A.L. Sealing, a business that reflected his professionalism and strong work-ethic. When considering his hobbies, John was an impressively knowledgeable and self-taught builder of Triumph and BSA motorcycles. His mechanical skill extended much further though, to his understanding of the automotive industry in general, with even more admiration for classic vehicles … particularly his Cobra and the Daytona Coupe he had plans to acquire someday.
John is predeceased by his sister Patricia Patzke of Clay, and nephew Kevin Kritzer of Central Square. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Elizabeth “Libby” Snyder Thomas; daughters Amy (Donald) Burnell of Chittenango and Carrie Thomas Ryder of Buffalo; son Major James E. (Alyson) Thomas, USMC and grandchildren James and Ava Thomas all of Traverse City, MI; sister Barbara Gilmore of Central Square, brothers-in-law Kurt E. (Nancy) Snyder of Brewerton, Karl F. (Connie) Snyder of Binghamton, and John H. (Teri) Snyder of Syracuse; and many adored nieces and nephews.
Instead of traditional calling hours, all are welcome to visit with John’s family at their home on Sunday, December 8, 2019, from 1-5 pm, at 8818 Lombardi Drive, Cicero. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the South Bay Volunteer Fire Department of Cicero, Francis House of Syracuse, and Hospice of CNY.
