Richard F. Griesmyer, 90, of Cleveland, passed away on Tuesday.
Richard was born in Cleveland, NY on February 28, 1929 to the late Aloysius and Edith (Ladue) Griesmyer. He served in the US Army from 1948 to 1952 in the Occupation of Germany and Korea. On June 6, 1953, Richard married Rosemary Bullard. He worked as a foreman in the gas department with National Grid for 30 years before retiring in 1988. After his retirement, he moved back to Cleveland from Oneida. Richard volunteered many hours putting on clam bakes, chicken BBQs and pig roasts with his cooking equipment to benefit local community organizations. He also helped raise money for the Veteran’s Memorial at Webb Park and maintained the grounds while he was still able. He was a member of the Cleveland American Legion, Post 858 and a life member of Trach-Auringer VFW in Constantia.
Richard is survived by daughters, Laureen Tackman and Cheryl (James) Claven, both of Cleveland; grandchildren, Nicholas (Sonya) Griesmyer, who was like a son to him, of Cleveland, and Ashley (Stefen) Blasingame, of Brewerton; great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Madelynn, and Mason Griesmyer, Ryker, Raegann, and Rowen Blasingame; and two sister-in-laws, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers, Charles and Gerald.
Per his request, there will be no calling hours. There will be a Mass at St. Mary’s in Cleveland at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 16, 2019. Spring Burial Service will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2019, at 10:00 am, at St. Mary's Cemetery in Cleveland, NY.
The family would like to extend sincere gratitude to the staff at Betsy Ross Nursing Home for the care extended to Richard over the last two years.
