Barbara Van Dyke, 85, of Central Square passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 21, 2023. She was born in Syracuse on March 29, 1938, graduated from Vocational High School in Syracuse and lived most of her life in the Phoenix area. In her youth, she enjoyed playing sports and the kids would call her "Toughy". She worked as an accomplished seamstress. A craft she passed on to her daughters for which they are grateful. She worked for Cortini’s Shoes in Fulton and then opened her own business, The Sewing Place, in Phoenix. Barbara enjoyed flower gardening, her favorite flower were daisies. She said they were a happy flower, they always made her smile. She was a very good bowler and was on several leagues and also enjoyed playing darts and crossword puzzles. Barbara is predeceased by her husband, Wesley Van Dyke, siblings Ronald, Robert, Patricia, Marilyn and Beverly. She is survived by her daughters, Terry (Craig) Robbins of Central Square, Wendy (John) Young of Hubert, NC; Granddaughters, Mandi (Brandon), Aubrey (Jared), Taylor (Tom); Her greatgrandchildren, Maisy, Charlotte, Gustave, Jude, Chole and one on the way due in March; Her sisters, Shirley Terwilliger of Athens, TN and Nancy Cornell of Hastings; along with several nieces and nephews. A graveside service for Mom will be held at a later date. And one last thing…”and though she be but little, she is fierce” -William Shakespeare
