Cathie Mae (Vogel) Lovely

After a brief battle with cancer, Cathie has gone on ahead to prepare a seat for us at the banquet table. We might call to see if she needs anything, but even if there was a way to speak with her, without Ed to answer her phone, we would never get a hold of her. 

No one would dispute she was a sweet woman who wanted the best for everyone as long as she could be home by dark. A dinner date meant 2 pm but that didn't mean she didn't love full afternoon adventures with the grandkids at Five Wits and WonderWorks. Even with the kids, her surprisingly intense competitive spirit shone bright whether it Connect 4, MasterMind, Qwirkle, or Hearts. Don't wait too many seconds to fill in your Yahtzee card—she already knows your best strategy. 

She thought she couldn't dance, but she did win a dance competition and spent many evenings dancing on Oneida River. She even (mostly) learned the Lindy because her mom could do it, and she always wanted to do it, too. 

Regardless where you stand on the dance debate, no one was jealous of her singing voice. We all knew this first hand as she sung along to the same songs on repeat for years, over and over. And again. Play it once more so she can dance along. A few of us still run when certain 90's hits start to play. 

While her love of reading in her earlier years was passed on to half her daughters, her latter years were spent on the water, laying back with a beer. Excited when the speed boat was traded for a pontoon, she enjoyed planning excursions through the canals with her boating pals. Unfortunately, these planning skills skipped over her children. We're sure she's very disappointed with the looseness of this week's itinerary. 

Numerous compliments from teachers at every level about her children are a direct reflection of what a wonderful woman Cathie was. We know she was only concerned if we were happy, not how we found it. For that, all of this, and so much more, we loved her so, so much. 

Cathie Lovely is survived by her husband Edward; sisters, Debbie and Lois; daughters, Cynthia, Kimberly, Christina, and Stephanie; step-children Tammy and Edward; and grandchildren, Nicholas, Natalie, Matthew, Jordan, Ryan, Dylan, and Rissa; along with much-extended family. Born in March of 1954 in Lindenhurst, NY of William and Patricia Vogel, she will be sorely missed. 

A Visitation will be held on Monday, December12, 2022 from 4- 6 PM at Traub Funeral Home, Central Square.
