David R. Wheatley, 85, of Central Square, New York, passed quietly into the care of his recently found Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, on Thursday, November 23, 2023. Dave was a proud employee of the Bristol-Meyers Company for 35 years. Upon retirement, Dave enjoyed pursuing new hobbies and devoting more time to his old ones. He spent countless hours outside on his farm: cutting wood to heat his home; hunting; skiing; and maintaining his land, all tasks which he thoroughly enjoyed. He learned about woodworking and built himself a shop where he could tinker around with his projects.
Dave's greatest enjoyment, however, was spending time with his ever-growing family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He and the love of his life, Carol,(formerly Carol Sykes), wife of over 61 years, found great joy and fulfillment in helping and spending time with their family.
Surviving Dave are his wife; two children, Marcia Meyers and Cheryl (Mark) Hegarty; and grandchildren, Emily (David) Stephens, Elisabeth Meyers, Jennifer (Joseph) Wendt, Julianna (Alex) Mitchell, Brian Hegarty, Rhylianna Meyers, and MaryGrace Meyers. Dave is also survived by great-grandchildren Ivy, Charlette, Lincoln, and Anne. Also surviving are Dave's very special sister/aunt, Barbara Hearne, and many nieces, including Tobi Wolf who spent countless hours staying connected with him throughout the years.
Dave was predeceased by a special grandfather, Clifford Wheatley; his parents, Charles and Alice Wheatley; a sister, Marilyn Ward; a brother, Charles Wheatley; and two great-grandchildren, Amorette Davina Mitchell and John David Stephens.
Calling hours will be from noon to 2 pm on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Grace Baptist Church, 17 Oneida River Road, Pennellville, New York, with a service immediately following.
