Edward “Bunky” "Poppie" L. Emmons, 86, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 07, 2024 with his family at his side. At his request there will be no public services. Cards and condolences can be sent to the Emmons family in Central Square or brought to the Funeral Home for forwarding.
Edward was born in Browns Mills, New Jersey to the late Howard and Geneva Emmons on February 17, 1938. He married Nancy Bennett in Browns Mills, NJ on August 22, 1959. He dedicated over 30 years employed by the New York State Police working in maintenance before his eventual retirement. Edward, along with his wife and family resided in Watertown, NY for nearly 40 years before moving to North Syracuse in 2000 as he began his second life in retirement and being a grandfather. From there, he and his wife moved to Geneva NY, living there for nearly 10 years before moving to Oswego NY in 2014 and then his final home in Central Square in 2023 living with his son Nathan (and his family) at the time of his passing.
Edward was a man who encouraged everyone to slow down in life. He enjoyed playing and singing along to bluegrass music on his guitar, playing cards (Hand and Foot especially), and watching the wildlife outside. He embraced a grateful attitude. His most cherished moments were spent with his family and grandchildren who knew him as “Poppie”. He loved his grandchildren dearly. Poppie was happiest when the whole family was together for holidays. Whether it was Christmas or Thanksgiving, he consistently looked forward to having everyone in one place, sharing meals and especially his favorite; pumpkin pie. Edward was also a man of faith, and always encouraged others to go to church and find God. He truly recognized what was important in life, and embraced it fully.
Besides his parents, Edward is predeceased by his wife; Nancy, and his son; Ronald Emmons.
Left to cherish his memory are his children; Edward E “Ned" (Lisa) Emmons, Ethan (Vickie) Emmons, and Nathan (Lisa) Emmons, his grandchildren; Alexander, Daniel, Olivia and Samuel who cared for and lived with him, as well as several other grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, brothers, sisters and friends.
