Emil Joseph Matthys

Emil Joseph Matthys, 96 years of age passed away Saturday October 5, 2024 at Morningstar Nursing Facility in Oswego New York..

Joe was born July 10, 1928 in Central Square New York to the late Omer and Marguerite Matthys. He is predeceased by his five siblings Vivian Sheldon, Omer Matthys Jr., Leona McLaughlin, Sylvia Rio and Richard Matthys. He is also predeceased by his wife Helen.

Joe graduated from Central Square High School. After graduation he traveled across the country working in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Indianapolis, Indiana before settling in Los Angeles, California. Joe met and married Helen there. He worked and retired from the Los Angeles Zoo. After his retirement Joe and Helen moved to her native Hungary where they lived behind the iron curtain for many years. He returned to Central Square following the death of his beloved Helen.

Joe was a fixture at most school sporting events and was active in Divine Mercy Parish in Central Square, New York.

Joe is survived by many nieces, nephews and their families.
