Francis “Chico” Rhines Jr., 86, passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2024, with his family by his side, after a brief illness.
Born June 19,1938 to the late Francis and Ruth Rhines Sr.
He began his career as a racecar driver at the Brewerton Raceway in 1957. In his younger years, Chico worked for the Central Square Police Department for six years and then the Oswego County Sheriff’s department, Eastern Ambulance service, Watson Ambulance, and he also worked for Mentor’s Ambulance service. Chico then retired from the Central Square School District after working many years as a school bus driver.
Some of his enjoyments in life were racing, which he was considered a ‘Racing Pioneer”, spending time with his family, and playing with his dogs.
In addition to his parents, Chico is predeceased by his wife Barbara.
Those who are left to cherish his memory are his children, Joanne (Scott) Macomber, and Denise L. Rhines; grandchildren, Trina Taylor, David (Kylie) Taylor, and Mara Macomber; great-grandchildren, Hayden, Hannah, and Hailey Taylor; and his sister, Patricia Dumers.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Ethan Halsey and the neighbors of Floyd Drive for caring and looking out for Chico.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for you to make a donation in Chico’s memory to a charity of your choice.
Calling hours will take place Thursday, January 2, 2025 from 5:00pm – 7:00pm, with a funeral service following at 7:00pm at Watson Funeral Home 631 S. Main Street, Central Square, NY 13036.
