Fred C. Beardsley, 70, of Central Square, New York died Saturday, July 22, 2023 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse, New York surrounded by his loving family following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Syracuse, New York on January 18, 1953 the son of the late Francis C. and Mary A. Moulton Beardsley. He was predeceased by his wife the former Deborah Galaski who died in 2016.
Fred started his career as a Millwright serving in unions 1163 and 2355. He left the union to become owner and operator of Brewerton Building Supply. He was a very active member of the community – belonging to the Central Square Masonic Lodge #622, Fulton Polish Home, Central Square #915 Sons of the American Legion, the Syracuse Valley of the Scottish Rite and a former member of the Central Square Lions club.
Fred was a very passionate member of the political community. He started his political career on the Town of Hastings Planning Board where he became Chairman. He progressed to Town of Hastings Councilman and then to Hastings Town Supervisor. As Town Supervisor he was instrumental in starting the infrastructure program and securing grants. Thanks to his hard work and dedication the Town of Hastings has public water and its own waste water treatment plant. Additionally the Pop Warner football field, concession stand and storage building were built due to his efforts. Lastly, as Town Supervisor he started the highway machinery replacement program.
He advanced from town politics to Oswego County Legislator where he served as Majority leader and then Chairman of the Legislature. Fred continued on to become Oswego County Treasurer. Lastly, he twice served as the Chairman of the Oswego County Republican Committee.
Survived by his fiancee, Diane Curcie and a son, Jason (Theresa) Beardsley; grandchildren, Nick, A.J. and Danielle; brothers; Jeff (Janice) and John Beardsley; sister; Sharon (Dale) Hollady; several nieces and nephews; Jeff, Jamie, Jessica, Wendy, Heidi, Sean, Tami, Connie, Jay and Dale.
Calling hours will be 4:00 - 7:00 pm on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at Traub Funeral Home, Inc., 684 North Main Street, Central Square. Services and burial will be private.
Memorial contributions in Fred's name may be made to St. Jude Childrens Hospital.
