George Thomas, 74 of Parish, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loved ones on August 8th, 2021 after battling cancer and serious medical illness.
George was born in Cornwall, Ontario on March 31, 1947 to Ethel Oakes and John Thomas. He grew up on the Akwesasne reservation and Black Lake. He attended Morristown High School and served his country in the US Navy from 1965-1968 during the Vietnam War era. He worked as a plumber/steam fitter and was a member of the Plumbers & Steam Fitters Union local 267 up until his retirement in 2002. George enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and extended family and friends. He was a member of American Legion post 601 and VFW post 369. He enjoyed golfing, especially the Nathan Thomas Memorial Golf tournament, where he could golf and visit with friends and family. He was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed watching the Mets play.
George is predeceased by his mother Ethel Oakes and son Nathan Thomas. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Kathy Thomas, and his children Dana Skye (Sunny Skye), Oran Thomas, Kerrianne Thomas, Joseph Thomas, Brandon (Deb Thomas), Brett Thomas (Lisa Shoop), along with 6 siblings (3 predeceased), 12 grandchildren and an extended family on Akwesasne Mohawk Territory.
Calling Hours will be held on Thursday, August 12th, from 3pm to 6pm, at Traub Funeral Home, Central Square with a Memorial Service to follow at 6pm.
