James Michael "Mike" Sheehan born October 10,1947 passed away at home surrounded by family on September 24, 2025. He grew up in Syracuse, New York and raised his family in West Monroe, New York.
Mike’s anchor was his family; nothing brought him more joy. He showed so many what it meant to be trustworthy and dependable, standing by his values.
Mike was a contradiction in the best of ways; a warrior and a man of peace, tough yet gentle, unwavering yet spontaneous, a man of few words yet a gifted storyteller. Most at home in or on the water. He adored all critters, even the mangy ones, much to his bride’s dismay. A thrill-seeker, a master woodworker, an artist, a creator and a lighthearted mischief maker.
His life can’t exactly be summarized in short because he lived it so fully. He was a family man, a devout Catholic, a proud combat Marine Corps Vietnam Veteran (‘68-’69), a volunteer firefighter, an Ironworker Local Union 60 Officer, a coach, an original Gregory J. Harris Military Courtesy Room volunteer, an Honor Flight USMC Biographer, an adventurer, a boat builder and a friend.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, the former Barbara "Bonnie" J. Weinheimer, Jack Sheehan (Brother), William Stover (Brother of his heart), children Kristin Sheehan-Vautrin (Dillon), Keith Sheehan (Mikell), Kelli Wehrung (Jeff), Kit Sheehan (Lou) and his grandchildren Kaitlyn Coon, Kenzi Coon (Rebecca),Tanner Vautrin, Quinn Vautrin, Bailey Sheehan, Caleb Sheehan, Andi Sheehan, Eli Wehrung, Athea Wehrung, and an abundance of extended family who adored him.
Hopefully, St. Peter is ready for Mike's blarney.
May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be always at your back.
