James Price Knipp

Almost nine years after suffering a major stroke, James P. Knipp found peace and freedom from his body’s limitations on May 19, 2020. He joins his parents, Gerald and Audrey Knipp, his sister Linda Carol Knipp, brother Dean Richard Knipp, and his beloved brother in law Howard Crooks.

Born in Jersey City, New Jersey in his grandmother’s house, he lived in various locations in Connecticut and New York before settling in Central Square. James was an avid walleye fisherman and a lifelong card player, dominating at Pitch. Both the New York Yankees and NASCAR were his passions, and he frequently had multiple televisions and radios broadcasting the current events at the same time. He always had an endless supply of 'useless' knowledge, seemingly knowing everything about anything. He had a keen eye for antique cars, naming years, makes and models with such precise knowledge and personal anecdotes that one might think it was all fabricated.

He worked in the Transportation Department at McLane Company in Baldwinsville for the 20 years before he became ill and rose proudly to the level of Fleet Maintenance Manager. James had a personality larger than life, always quick with a joke or story to make you feel welcome at his table. Notable “James-isms” include reminding his card opponents “you can’t win if you don’t bid”, and “There’s something wrong with a (niece/nephew) who won’t hug their Uncle.”  Above all else, he fiercely loved his family.

His many unique charms will be lovingly cherished by his wife of 36 years Helen, his three children Alexandra (Christopher), Rebecca (Cooper), and Zachary Knipp, and two grandchildren, Maxwell and Tobias Ayre. His sisters Arlene Crooks and Karen McIntyre will miss him tremendously, as will his numerous Sisters in law and Brothers in law, nieces and nephews, and cherished friends and coworkers.

A special thank you to Cynthia Williams for the special attention and care she gave James while at St. Camillus these past nine years.  Donations may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 210 Hazel Street, Liverpool, NY where he was a member.  A celebration of life will be held at a date to be determined.
