James R. Stevens, 77, of North Volney, New York passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025 with loved ones by his side after a brief illness.
James was born in Fulton, New York on December 22, 1947 son of the late Raymond and Nancy Duciaume Stevens. He graduated from Mexico High School, Class of 1967. Following graduation, he entered the United States Air Force, serving 20 years; 7 years active and 13 years with the 174th Air National Guard in Syracuse, New York. He retired from Alcan/Novelis Oswego Works in Oswego, New York at 58 years old following 28 years as a Skilled Melter operator.
James was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed camping with his family, telling stories, playing cards, and cracking jokes. One of his favorite things to do was going to DJ’s Diner in Palermo, New York to meet up with friends, a visit and a meal. He was a proud grandfather, and always made it a priority to attend all his grandchildren’s school functions. His loving and kind hearted personality brought warmth and laughter to all. He will be dearly missed.
He was predeceased by his son; David L. Stevens, his parents; Nancy Duciaume and Raymond Stevens, as well as his in laws; Gerald and Martha Darling.
Surviving is his wife;of 49 years the former, Mary Darling; his children; Cheryl (Scott) Druce, Ashley (Jason Sutton) Stevens, his grandchildren; Samual Michaud, Paxton, Mason and Anita Druce, Genevieve Buckingham and Kendall Buckingham, Rose, Ryan and Ryder Stevens, his siblings; Raymond (Rosalie) Stevens, Carol (Jim) Mason, William (Gail) Stevens, Ruth (Dan Brown) Stevens and Kenneth (Phyllis) Stevens as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00-5:00pm with full Military Honors at 1:30pm on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at the VFW Post 369, 5931 State Route 3. Mexico, New York. Burial will be in North Volney Cemetery.
