James Braidwood Welch

James B. Welch, 89 of Central Square, New York died Friday, April 14, 2023 at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, New York. Born March 4, 1934, son of the late Bernard and Dorothy Bradwood Welch. 

Jim was a man of love and compassion wrapped in character, strength, and truthfulness. Jim was faithful to God all his life here on earth, studied God's word, and relied on the Holy Trinity to guide him through eighty nine years. After graduating highschool, he enlisted in the US Army, stationed in Germany where he mastered demolition to help build Ramstein Air Force base. Upon honorable discharge he entered ESF School of Forestry in Wanakena, NY, using his education to serve as a ranger, cruising timber for Finch-Pryne for 30 years. Jim moved on in his life to become a letter carrier for the USPS, a sawyer, a taxi cab driver, a paramedic with Watson Ambulance Service in Central Square, NY; corrections officer for Onondaga county, and a NYS Codes Enforcement Officer, assisting the HUD program in Phoenix, NY. retiring at the age of 77. 

Jim was blessed with a wonderful family including two sons, four daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is with Jesus now and we will all miss him and his love for us all.

He was predeceased by a son-in-law, John Prescott.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, the former Carlene A. Barnes; sons, James (Terry) and William (Debbie) Welch; daughters, Dorothy Bennett, Kathleen (Steve) Hoffman, Jeanette Prescott and Katie Barnes; 19 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, April 18, 2023 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow immediately at Divine Mercy Parish, 592 South Main Street, Central Square, New York. Graveside Service will be available to all at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 in St. Michaels Cemetery, Fine, New York.
