Jeremy "JJ" Cruz, 45, of Syracuse, New York, passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of September 8, 2025 at his home in Buffalo, New York. JJ attended Central Square schools before graduating from Henninger High School. Following graduation, he entered the Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 267 Joint Apprenticeship & Training Committee program, completing the five-year course in Plumbing & Pipefitting in May 2005. He went on to build his career as a dedicated pipefitter. Outside of work, JJ found joy in cooking, repairing things, and playing the drums. Known for his kindness, humor, and generous spirit, he had a gift for lifting others up and making people feel cared for.
JJ is survived by his children, Dezherae Doane (26) and Mina Cruz (11); his father, Albert (Elaine) Cruz; his stepfather, Francis “Chris” (Linda) Mathison; his siblings, Micah (Stefanie) Cruz, Rebecca Cruz, and Alexis (Jack) Mills; his niece, Lisette DeLee-Cruz; and his girlfriend, Cassandra Stewart.
