Joseph (Joe) W. Miller passed away on the afternoon of September 18, 2022 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse, surrounded by his family. He was 86 years old.
Joe was born on December 15, 1935 in Plattsburg, NY and grew up on a farm in Ellenburg, NY with nine brothers and sisters. In 1958, he married Mary (Liz) Burnell and they later relocated to the Syracuse area. They have lived in Bridgeport, NY since 1962.
Joe was employed by Carrier Corporation as a pipe fitter and tester. He retired in 1996 after 40 years of dedicated service. He was proud of his work and accomplishments at Carrier.
Joe was a long-time parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church. He loved the outdoors, spending time camping, fishing, and hunting. He also enjoyed listening to country music. His family holds many fond memories of listening to him and his brother sing and play guitar while sitting around the campfire.
Joe delighted in telling stories about growing up on the farm and had a lively sense of humor. He was a loving and dedicated father and grandfather, never missing an orchestra concert, dance recital, or field hockey game. His family will miss him beyond measure.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Blanche and John Miller; his twin sister, Joanne, who died as an infant; his brothers, Alton Miller, Roma Miller, and Andrew Miller; and his sister, June Miesch.
Joe is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 64 years, Mary (Liz) Miller; his cherished daughter, Joanne Miller; and his beloved granddaughters, Corina Miller and Kalli Miller. He is also survived by his brothers, Maynard Miller and Raymond Miller; his sisters, Grace Bishman, Theresa Rockhill, and Shirley LaFave; and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 23 from 4-7 PM at Traub Funeral home in Bridgeport. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, September 24, 10:30 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to St. Francis of Assisi Church or the American Diabetes Association.
