Josephine Mills Swierk

Josephine “Josie” Mills Swierk passed away peacefully at home on Monday January 27, 2025.

A funeral service will be held at St. Francis of Assisi in Bridgeport, NY on Friday February 07, 2025 beginning at 11:00AM. Josephine will be laid to rest with her husband in the Bridgeport Cemetery in the spring.

Josie was born to Jozef and Janina Swierk on December 02, 1945. She was born in BIberach, Germany but was a proud naturalized citizen of the US. Josie earned her GED and married Lloyd Mills Sr. in Syracuse at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on February 12, 1966.

Josie was very proud and dedicated to her faith. A former Eucharistic Minister, She taught catechism to others, but was also open and understanding of people of all faiths.

 Josephine, was known as “Mama Josie” to many. She enjoyed traveling, visiting family, and reading. She loved books; especially horror or adventure, and was an avid reader up until the very end of her life. 

Josie is survived by her children; Lisa (Ed) Boronczyk and Lloyd (Rachel Doolittle) Mills Jr., a legacy of 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, 6 of her siblings, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.  Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her husband; Lloyd Sr. and her daughter; Veronica.
