Karl R. Korenini, 75, Mexico, New York passed away on July 25, 2026. He was born on November 4, 1950, in Yugoslavia, son of the late Karel and Leopoldine (Ferditsch) Korenini.
In 1959, Karl immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island with is mother, brother, and sister. The family settled in Dolgeville, New York, where he grew up. He attended Oppenheim-Ephratah High School before proudly enlisting in the United States Marine Corps at the age of 17. Karl honorably served his country during the Vietnam War from 1972-1975. Following his military service, he worked as a professional painter, completing projects for numerous companies throughout New York and Florida.
Karl enjoyed watching Westerns, Antiques Roadshow, and a variety of game shows, where his remarkable knowledge always seemed to shine through. He especially loved watching Bob Ross paint, and whenever he admired a beautiful landscape, he would smile and say, “That’s a Bob Ross picture right there.”
One of Karl’s greatest joys in life was spending time fishing with his son, Johann. These fishing trips were priceless to him, and he treasured every moment they shared together. Karl was incredibly proud of his son and cherished any opportunity to spend time with him.
In his later years, Karl briefly lived with his niece Nikol “Koaly” Berg, whom he loved like a daughter. They spent countless hours together watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, talking about family, and enjoying each other’s company.
Karl could often be found with a cup of McDonald’s coffee and a newspaper, working on crossword puzzles. He was immensely proud to be a Marine veteran and frequently shared stories from his time in the service. Family and friends meant everything to him. He made it a point to stay connected, calling loved ones daily or weekly simply to chat. Karl also had a deep love for animals, especially dogs. He is survived by his beloved dog, Poldi – named after his mother – who is now being lovingly cared for by a family member.
Karl was predeceased by his parents, Karel and Leopoldine Korenini; his brother, Gregor Korenini; his beloved sister, Natalie Berg (Korenini); his broher-in-law, Norman D. Berg Jr; and his nephew, Christopher Berg.
He is survived by his son, Johann Korenini of Richland, New York; his stepdaughters, Noelle Baum of Florida and Brandy Graves (Baum) (Terry Graves) of Mexico, New York; and his former wife, Kay Baum of Florida. He is also survived by his nieces, Nikol Berg (Jason House) of Mexico and Central Square, New York; Mara Korenini of Herkimer, New York; and Alicia and Amanada
Korenini – “the twins”, as Karl affectionately called them – of Des Moines, Iowa and Mexico, New York. He is further survived by his nephews, Justin Berg (Kate Martin) of
Palermo, New York; and Gregor Korenini of Herkimer, New York, as well as many great nieces and one great nephew.
A calling hour will be held on Wednesday, August 5, from 3:00-4:00pm at Traub Funeral Home, Inc., 684 North Main Street, Central Square, New York. Services and burial will be private.
