Lonnie E Crast, of Lacona New York, passed away after a short illness November 13th 2025. He was born October 19, 1945, in Sandy Creek to Ivan and Thema (Kinney) Crast. He graduated from Sandy Creek high school Class of ’63 and then enlisted in the United States Army. He served in the US Armed Forces from 1963 – 2001, during that time he was deployed to Vietnam and Saudi Arabia. Upon retirement, he earned an Associates Degree in Networking from Jefferson Community College. He then worked for his community from 2001-2011 as Deputy Town Supervisor, Town Councilman, Emergency Management Coordinator, and Town Supervisor. He also served his community as an active member and post commander of the VFW Cable Trail Post 8534 for many years. It the later years of his retirement, he went to work for the NYS canal system as lock maintenance.
Lonnie is predeceased by both of his parents, his brother Terry, sister Patricia (Crast) Reid, and his brother Larry. He is survived by his children: Mary “Julie” White, Torrey (Amy) Crast, and Tara (Garrett) Amyot; his grandchildren: Logan (Brittany) White, Viktoria (Lloyd) Fowler, Cordelia Crast, Amelia Crast, Ewan Crast, Kaywinnit Amyot and Charlie Amyot; his great grandchildren: Lincoln Fowler, Landon Fowler, Sadie-Ann White and Cooper White; his sister Kayrene (Crast) Pappa, brother Kimberly (Laurie) Crast and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lonnie was always willing to help family and community as a jack of all trades. He was a very knowledgeable resource. He enjoyed tinkering on electronics and cars and always had a million projects that he was working on at the house. He also enjoyed flying, having had earned his pilot’s license, and traveling with his family. Before having children, Lonnie and Janet enjoyed snowmobiling with their friends. He was a dedicated family man and socialite. You could always find him at one of the coffee shops in town and strike up a conversation with him.
A Graveside Service will take place on Saturday, November 22nd, 12 pm, at Evergreen Cemetery in Orwell, New York. A Celebration of Life will follow from 1 pm to 5 pm at the VFW in Lacona, New York. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hospice of CNY and Wounded Warriors.
