On October 30th 2022, Margaret A "Peggy" Lokay, 77 of Central Square, NY, passed away peacefully on 4 South Irving at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, NY.
Peggy was born in Syracuse to Nelson and Edna Munger and grew up in Constantia. She graduated from Paul V. Moore High School in 1962. Through the years she has worked in finance for different companies, ultimately retiring from BBL, Inc in East Syracuse. She was an auxillary member of the Central Square American Legion, Fuller - Taylor Post 915.
Peggy is pre deceased by her husband Richard D Lokay, 6 months ago to the date of her passing. She is also pre deceased by her son Richard D Nemier. She is survived by her sister, Nanette Collver, her children and step children, Michele Kires (Tom), Babette Whitford (Bill), Laurie Ucher (Shawn), Bill Lokay (Lynn), Jeffrey Lokay (Dawn), and Tammy Fleming (Mike). Peg was blessed to have 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
If you knew Peggy, you knew her sense of humor. You got to experience her quick wit, her sarcasm, and knew how feisty she could be. Peg was the definition of living life to the fullest, and making sure in her presence that you were too. She had a smile and laugh that was contagious. When she wasn't bragging about her great grandchildren to you, she was probably talking politics - which in your case was either a good or bad thing. She was wild and free, a force of nature, and opinionated empath. She had an answer for everything, and she was always there for you. Being a grandmother and great grandmother was something that Peggy was most proud of. Her world revolved around her kids, and then theirs, and then theirs. The family truly will not be the same without her.
Her family grieves her loss, but they take comfort in knowing that Peg and her husband are together again, as well as reuniting with her son. Knowing her, she is on a beach somewhere with her toes in the water, chair in the sand, and an ice cold drink in her hand. Country music is most definitely playing and she's enjoying herself the way she couldn't for so long now. Peg did not want sadness and grief - she wants memories and laughter. So think of her and think of the good times you had. And find comfort in knowing that she is finally at peace.
Lastly, we would like to thank the staff on 4 South Irving for the wonderful care they gave Peggy from beginning to end. Her family is forever grateful.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to St. Judes or the CNY Diaper Bank.
A Visitation will be held on Friday, November 4, 2022 from 4-6 PM at Traub Funeral Home, Central Square. A Funeral Service will immediately follow at 6 PM at the funeral home.
