Obituary

Marilyn A. Korb, 90, went home to be with her Lord Jesus on Thursday, June 15, 2023, surrounded by her three children.

Born Marilyn Adell Snow on January 10, 1933, to Pauline (Eastman) Snow and Yale Wiltse Snow of Caughdenoy, New York, she was a 1950 graduate of Central Square Central Schools and served in the United States Naval Reserve after graduation.

Marilyn was a lifelong resident of Caughdenoy and enjoyed spending her days in and around the home she and her late husband, Merle, built on a portion of her parents’ farmland. For many years she was a stay-at-home mom while her daughters were growing up, and was involved in their activities such as 4-H, Girl Scouts and all things music.

A devout Christian, she was a lifelong member of the Caughdenoy United Methodist Church and its choir. She directed the church’s youth choir and sang in area cantatas for several years. Marilyn also served as a Sunday school teacher and Superintendent of Sunday School. She was committed to the community by working as a dedicated election inspector, an assistant for various charitable fundraising activities, and a devoted blood donor. She was well-known for her elaborate cake baking and decorating skills, which graced many significant moments, such as local weddings, graduations, birthdays and special events over several decades.

Marilyn was employed with the Oswego County Department of Social Services in Fulton, Oswego and Mexico, New York retiring in 1996. Previously, she worked as a teacher’s aide in the Central Square Central School District, and at General Electric in Liverpool as a stenographer/personnel secretary.

After retirement, she enjoyed watching the wildlife on and around her backyard ponds, gardening, traveling with senior citizen groups, spending winters in North Carolina, and being with her children. Marilyn brought much joy to her family and friends with her smile, laughter and kindness. She enjoyed spending time with her extended family on holidays, and visiting with her second family, the Meyers.

She leaves behind daughters Miki L. (Brian) Hansen of Ocala, Florida., and Terri J. Korb of Stillwater, New York; and son, Michael D. (Claudine) Korb of Fort Myers, Florida; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Merle C. Korb (1993); sister, Sharon M. Candee (2016), and brother, Lynn H. Snow (2014).

A memorial service will take place at 1:11 pm on Saturday. September 9, 2023 at the Caughdenoy United Methodist Church. A private burial will be in the Caughdenoy Cemetery.
