Marlene Harrington, age 77, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on September 5, 2023. Born in Syracuse, NY to Donald Hubert Snyder and Evelyn June (Hickman) Snyder. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, great-aunt, and more.
At age 18, she married David Galuszka, with whom she had six children. They lived in Cicero, then Bridgeport, then Chittenango, NY. At age 42 she married the love of her life, Robert Harrington. Marlene is survived by her daughters Hope Jordan of Concord, NH and Belinda Merithew of Canastota, NY; and her sons Davin Galuszka of Canastota, NY and Sean Galuszka of Long Beach, CA, as well as grandchildren Rebecca and Jacob Jordan, Savannah Wortham, Dylan Brantis, Hollyann Slack, Kyle Butler, and Austin Renfer, and great-grandchildren Lillie, Luna, and Levi Wortham.
She also leaves behind two brothers and four sisters; David Snyder of Brewerton, NY, Donald Snyder of Myrtle Beach, SC, Linda Snyder of Cortland, NY, Janice Snyder of Chittenango, NY, Joan Snyder of Canastota, NY, and Kim Agedal of Lafayette, NY. She is predeceased by her sister Judy Hyland and both husbands, as well as two children, David Scott Galuszka and Heather Slack.
Marlene most recently worked at Walmart for over 25 years as a jewelry associate. Earlier in her life she worked as a restaurant server as well as at General Electric, Gems Department Store, and the former L&S Grocery in Lakeport.
Marlene grew up on Oneida Lake; she loved boating and was an avid fisherwoman all her life. She taught all her grandchildren and many others how to fish. She also loved games of chance, and referred to the casino as her "happy place." She loved animals and cared deeply about people, and believed in helping everyone she could to the best of her ability.
At her request, there are no funeral services. A family celebration of Marlene Harrington's life will take place at future date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Oneida, Herkimer & Eastern Madison Counties in recognition of their extraordinary care; or to Helping Hounds Dog Rescue.
