Muriel (Sandy) Hicks
May 9, 1960 - June 26, 2024
Muriel "Sandy" Hicks, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, care giver to Aunt Lillian and a cherished community member, passed away on June 26, 2024, with family by her side at the age of 64. Sandy was born on May 9, 1960, and spent her life dedicated to her passions for cooking, deep seafishing, traveling, Dallas Cowboys and spending time with her family. Sandy was affectionately called “Yoda” by her beloved husband.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00PM Noon, on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at the Faith Church of the Nazarene (2813 State Route 69, Parish NY 13131).
Sandy’s generosity is evident in her selfless decision to donate her body to the Upstate Medical University Anatomical Gift Program, where she will play an important role in the advancement of medicine and science.
Sandy worked for Jim’s Fish Fry in Syracuse, NY for 16 years before becoming disabled. Her customers and employer were family to her. She was a cherished member of the Faith Church of the Nazarene in Parish, NY, where she found a sense of community and purpose. Her generosity and kindness touched the lives of many, always willing to help without expecting anything in return.
She is survived by her devoted spouse, Brandon Hicks; her daughters June (Jack) Nodine, Pamela (Lewis) Reynolds, Dorothy (Robert) Brown, and Muriel (Adam) Hurd; her stepchildren BJ (Flo) Hicks and Jonna Hicks; her brother William (Pat) Douglas, Bernard (Connie) Douglas Jr., her sisters Debra Johnson, Lillian (Paul) Jacobson, Elsie Douglas, Joan Ward, Betty (Harold) Mills, and her best friend, Gail Quill. Sandy also leaves behind 20 beloved grandchildren, including Hailey Hicks, and 10 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews who brought immense joy to her life. Sandy was predeceased by her Father and mother Bernard Douglas Sr and Muriel Douglas, her sisters Bernice Miller, Rosanne Krenisky, and April Sampson.
Sandy's legacy of love, selflessness, and community spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her. She was loved by all and will be deeply missed.
