Nancy J. Wood

Nancy Jane Wood, 89, of Liverpool, NY, passed away on April 24, 2025.

Nancy was born in Syracuse and spent her early years in Amherst, NY. She resided in the Buffalo area until 1973, when she moved to Liverpool, where she remained for most of her life. In 2019, she moved in with her daughter Sue, and in 2023, she transitioned to the memory care unit at The Cottages in Cicero.

Nancy dedicated over 50 years of her life to her work as a cashier with Rite Aid, proudly serving customers at locations in North Tonawanda, Liverpool, Mattydale, downtown Syracuse, and finally North Syracuse—where she was honored as 2009 Smile Associate of

the Year. Nancy truly loved her job and affectionately referred to her customers as her “peeps".

A devoted NASCAR fan, Nancy and her husband Bill, traveled across the country in their Winnebago to attend races. Saturday nights during racing season were sacred; well into her 80's, Nancy could be found in her favorite seat at Oswego Speedway—up high, right in front of the start/finish line.

Nancy also had a deep love for animals, especially her dogs, who were cherished members of her family. She attended numerous dog shows and never missed the AKC National Championship on TV.

Nancy was a devoted Buffalo Bills, Syracuse University basketball and football fan. She spent many hours watching her favorite teams on TV.

Above all, Nancy loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her family brought her great joy and were the heart of her life.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, William A. Wood, in 1987; her parents, Reginald F. and Hilda R. Berry; her son in law, Mikeical A. Kimpel Sr., April 26, 2021; and her brother, Charles L. Berry, October 12, 2023; She is survived by her daughters Sue (Mikeical) Kimpel and Sandra (Dennis) Hughes; grandchildren Mikeical II and James (Crystal) Kimpel, Stephanie, and Sherri (Jeremy Tompkins) Wiemeier; great-grandchildren Angelina, Jamie, McKinnah, James II, Claire Kimpel, and Riley Tompkins; and nephew, Andrew Berry

Calling hours will be held from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at Traub Funeral Home in Central Square, NY. A private graveside service will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Baldwinsville, NY.
