Philip M. Steitz, 68, of Central Square, passed away on January 24, 2021 at home. He was born in Hartford, Conn on March 14, 1952 to the late Raymond and the late Shirley (Hilditch) Steitz.
Philip owned and operated Premier Tire in Syracuse for many years.Phil grew up on the shore and had so many fond memories of crabbing and clamming. After high school, he went into the Marine Corp. Phil owned and ran Johnny’s Pizza in Manlius for several years. Later in life, he changed his career path and opened Premier Tire. Phil ran the tire company until his retirement. He loved the outdoors, playing in the softball leagues, hunting, and fishing. He enjoyed planting and tending to large gardens so that he could give the vegetables away for free to the neighborhood. Phil loved his family. He always said “Be there or be square,” and remember, “Family comes first.” His family is most important to him.
Philip is survived by his wife, Deborah; children, Brandon Steitz of Philadelphia, Pa, Taylor (Kristin McMillan) Steitz of Syracuse, Carrie Babcock of California; sisters, Leslie Bilo, Kim Steitz Way, and Sarah Steitz ; brothers, Gordon Steitz, Jay (Patty) Steitz, and Brian (Kristin) Steitz; sister-in-law, Linda Martin, brother-in-law, John Martin; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A Visitation will be held from 5-6 pm on Monday, February 1, 2021 at Traub Funeral Home, 684 N. Main St., Central Square, NY. A Celebration of Philip’s life will follow at 6 pm at the funeral home.
