Reginald “Reg” A. Maher, 93, of West Monroe, New York, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Born on February 20, 1932, to Frank and Iva Maher, Reg grew up with seven siblings and spent his childhood between Little France and Oneida, New York. He worked for the Bell System for over 30 years, retiring from Verizon after a long and successful career in telecommunications.
Reg enjoyed spending his time in the woods, at the woodpile, or on his tractors. More than anything, he loved being a grandfather and spending time with his family. A proud and active member of the Knights of Columbus, Reg will be remembered for his quiet strength, tireless work ethic, and deep devotion to those closest to him.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann (Walter) Maher; his children, David (Kellie), Dale (Stephanie), and two daughters from a previous marriage; his grandchildren, Emma, Sophie (Dave), Benjamin, and Natalie (Dale); and his siblings, Annette, Franny, Arlene, Doreen, and Mitch. He was predeceased by his sister, Pat, and brother, Eugene.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 27, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Traub Funeral Home in Central Square, New York. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 28, at 10 a.m. at Traub Funeral Home, with burial to follow at West Monroe Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to Eugene Sauer, Knights of Columbus Council 16943, 35 Third Street, Camden, NY 13316, in Reg's memory.
