Richard was an active member of the Central Square Lions Club where he co-chaired the Christmas Basket program for over 20 years. He was also a member of the Central Square Historical Society and a previous Boy Scout troop leader. While he was formally trained in chemistry, he always brought a healthy dose of alchemy to whatever he did. The outdoors put a spring in his step all year round. He camped in the Adirondacks, hiked in any group of trees big enough to hide the road, cooked rare burgers on an open fire, and turned anything he found in the woods into the finest lean-to it was capable of becoming. He could never get enough music. He attended hundreds of concerts, including everything from local bands in the park to Elvis. Walking into his house you could almost always find him playing at least two songs at the same time and he could do a mean twist.
Donations in his name may be made to the Central Square Lion’s Club P.O. Box 406 Central Square NY. Services will be private and burial will take place at Hillside Cemetery in the Spring.
