On the 21 st day of August 2021, Richard R. Wightdied in Syracuse, NY of complications related todiabetes. He was 75 years old.
Richard is survived by his wife Judith Wight of NorthSyracuse, NY; their children, Randall Wight (Angela)of Baltimore, MD and Ryan Wight (Amanda) of Clay, NY; nephew Richard Todero(Nancy) of NorthSyracuse, NY, and siblings Vicki Todero of NorthSyracuse, NY, and Bob Wight of Millsboro, DE. Hewas preceded in death by his mother, Phyllis Todero,and Robert Wight.
Richard was born on June 8 th , 1946, in Syracuse, NY. He graduated from Liverpool High School in 1964. His professional career spanned 25 years as a New York State employee for Syracuse Developmental Center, where he cared for persons with disabilities, earning the Director title. He lived by the essence of one of his favorite bible verses: Matthew 25:40 “The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” Richard married Judith Chapman in 1968. They were high school sweethearts with a mutual love for singing and listening to music. They welcomed their son, Randall, in 1970, and son Ryan, in 1972.
He leaves behind seven grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, great nieces, great nephews, and countless friends whose lives were enriched for having known him. Richard was a native of Liverpool, NY, residing on Beechwood Ave until relocating to a retirement community in Cicero in 2018. Richard was a pianist and enjoyed sharing his gift of music, by entertaining his fellow nursing home residents. In addition to donating to St. Jude's out of his compassion for children with special needs, he was a faithful contributor to the CNY SPCA due to his love for animals. A memorial service for Richard is scheduled for noon on Tuesday at Traub Funeral Home, 684 N Main St, Central Square, NY 13036. A graveside burial ceremony will immediately follow
at Hastings Cemetery, Rt. 11, Hastings, NY 13076. Flowers and condolences can be sent to the funeral home.
