Roberta McDougal Obituary

The colors of the world became a little dimmer on Monday, July 15, 2024 as Roberta "Bobbie" Anne McDougal passed peacefully from this world to the next. Bobbie was a cherished mom, mom-in-law, grandma, sister, aunt, great-aunt and friend to all who knew and loved her. We will miss her colorful personality and the love, light, and laughter that she radiated during her time here on this earth.

She was born and raised in Syracuse, attended and graduated from Nottingham High School, and attended Crouse School of Nursing where she became an RN.  She later attended
Syracuse University where she obtained a Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation Science and was employed until retirement as a school social worker in the Syracuse City School District,
primarily at Franklin Elementary School.

Bobbie met and ultimately married the love of her life, Bob, in 1963.  They had three sons: James, Thomas, and Owen.  Together, they enjoyed traveling, most notably trips to Israel,
China, and Ireland; watching SU games; raising their boys; and hosting get-togethers with family and friends.  Bobbie especially enjoyed Bob’s beautiful Irish tenor voice as he sang Irish
tunes and show numbers from Guys and Dolls and Fiddler on the Roof.  The loss of Bob at his passing in 1995 was mourned by all who loved him, but none more than Bobbie.  Bobbie carried
on, becoming a grandma and great-aunt.  She dearly loved her family and extended family, often hosting family reunions and vacations in the summer for her children and grandchildren
from across the United States.

She loved the colors of fall, and always watched fireworks with awe and appreciation. She loved beautiful sunsets and vivid rainbows when they came her way. She was a passionate flower
gardener, cultivating her favorites: white irises, pink hydrangeas, and red “knockout” roses.  She loved the SU Orange and the green hues of St. Patrick’s Day. A self-admitted shopaholic, her
notorious blue coupon bin was never far when she went to the store. She was an astute and avid Bridge player, achieving the status of Silver Lifetime Master. She loved the colors and
bright lights of the slot machines at the casino, often with her dear friend Fran Zirilli. Bobbie was the life of any party, who could tell a story and light up a room with her twinkling hazel eyes.
Along with her beloved husband Thomas Robert (Bob) McDougal, she is predeceased by her parents Benjamin and Caroline Morris.

She is survived by her sons James (Lisa), Thomas (Stefani Raggio), and Owen (Lynette) McDougal and her grandchildren Robert Benjamin (Ben), Kerilyne (Keri), Cara, Troy, McKenzie,
Riley, and Shannon McDougal.  She is also survived by her brothers Grant (Phyllis) Morris of La Jolla, CA and David Morris; nephew Joshua (Jessica) Morris; niece Sara (Brad) Holliday; and
great-niece and -nephews Sadie and Asa Morris and Ty and Kayden Holliday.

When you see the beautiful colors of the autumn leaves, a rainbow, a fiery sunset, or the glow of fireworks, please remember Bobbie and keep her “colors” in your heart.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to ARISE of Syracuse, an organization that supports individuals with disabilities.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, July 21, 2024 at 2:30 pm at Jake’s Grub and Grog in Brewerton, New York.  Visitation with family will follow.
