Roger Harry Yager, 77, passed away on July 13, 2025, in Central Square, New York.
A family man and proud veteran, Roger lived a life marked by hard work, loyalty, and a deep love for storytelling and connection. Born on August 4, 1947, in Fulton, New York, Roger was the son of Gordon and Carol Yager. He graduated from Fulton High School in 1965 before being drafted to serve his country. Throughout 1967 and 1968, he served as a Specialist in the United States Army, stationed in Mannheim, Germany. His time in the military remained an important chapter of his life.
Following his service, Roger embarked on a long and dedicated career as a pipefitter with UA Local #73, where he worked for over four decades. His commitment to his trade reflected his strong work ethic and sense of responsibility. In addition to his work as a pipefitter, Roger also spent many years with the United States Postal Service in Brewerton, New York.
Roger’s greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his wife, Ann Yager; sons, Roger Jr. (Karina Valtierra) of El Paso, TX; Royal (Allison Crutcher) of Virginia Beach, VA; Rodney (Amy Eggleston) of Kissimmee, FL; Reggie (Christine Locke) of Stafford, VA; and daughter Rhonda of Wichita Falls, TX. He also leaves behind three brothers— Donald (Bettie), Thomas (Mary), and Gary (Rosemary) — and two sisters — Enid Wahl and Kathleen Hayes. He is also a grandfather to sixteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents Gordon and Carol Yager; brother Gordon Yager Jr.; and sisters Virginia Dumont and Carol Roth.
Roger had a gift for making friends wherever he went. His love for telling stories brought laughter and warmth to those around him. Whether gathered around the table or chatting with neighbors or coworkers, he had a unique ability to connect with people through humor and heart. He found joy in simple pleasures—playing games with loved ones, cheering on baseball games with enthusiasm, or listening to music from the '60s through the '80s that stirred memories of earlier days. Above all else, he treasured time spent with family. Roger Harry Yager will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to family, his strong work ethic, his humor and wit, and the stories that brought people together across generations.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on July 26, 2025, at 1:00 PM at The Gathering Place at North Syracuse Baptist Church, 420 S Main St. There will be military honors at the service
