Rosalee Wakefield Obituary

Rosalee Eaton Wakefield, 96, of Constantia, NY passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 27th,2022 while wintering in Dade City, Fl. All of her children were at her bedside when she continued her journey onto heaven. Born Rosalee Ursula Eaton, on January 16, 1926 in Bradford, VT to John and Wilma (Butterfield) Eaton, the middle of seven children.

Rosalee graduated from Bradford Academy in 1944. She was the captain of the basketball team and continued her love for the game by following the SU Orangemen.

Rosalee married Howard Olin Wakefield of Bradford, VT in 1947. She raised four children before entering the workforce in 1970, when her husband retired.  Rosalee worked for the Big “N” department store, before devoting many years of service to J.C. Penney, both businesses being in the Plattsburgh, NY. She retired as department head of home fashions in 1988.

Rosalee was born and raised in Bradford, VT before eventually moving to Morrisonville, NY, in 1955 to support her husband’s career as a lineman.

In 1989, She was blessed with another complete chapter in her wonderful life by moving to Constantia, NY. Rosalee enjoyed the final 33 years of her life in her “Little House on the Corner”.

Rosalee (Queenie) enjoyed spending quality time with family and friends. She loved her home and especially mowing her lawn on her riding lawn tractor. She loved playing cards and board games with “VIGOR”.

Rosalee will be greatly missed by her loving family and local community.

Rosalee is survived by her four children: Janis Sussey and her husband: Joseph Wiedenbeck of Constantia, NY, James and Shirley Wakefield of Central Square, NY, Jeffrey Wakefield of Brewerton, NY and Howard John Wakefield of Plaistow, NH.; Nine grandchildren: Gary Sussey, Greg Sussey, Grant Sussey, James Wakefield, Justin Wakefield, Jessica Wakefield, Crystal Wakefield, Jeffrey Wakefield II and Danielle Wakefield; Five great grandchildren; and Her surviving brother: Fred John Eaton of Villa Park, IL.

Rosalee was blessed with many, special, kind, and loving neighbors in Constantia, NY. The family appreciates and thank all that supported over the years.

Rosalee was predeceased by her loving husband of 31 years: Howard; Siblings: Georgia, Janice, Virginia, Howard (Teak), and Alton.

Local services in Rosalee’s memory will be held in Central Square, NY and Bradford, VT where she will be laid to rest in late May of 2022. Friends and Family are invited to share in these memories.

A Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2022 from 2:00pm - 5:00pm at Traub Funeral Home, Central Square. A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, May 23, 2022 at 1:30 PM in the Sawyer Cemetery, 694 Upper Plain, Bradford, Vermont.
