Bridgeport, NY – Stephen E. Frey, 85, of Bridgeport, NY, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2025. He was born on December 31, 1939.

Stephen was predeceased by his son, Scott.

He is survived by his sons, Gary (Patti) and Michael (Georgia); his daughter, Jennifer (Jeffrey) Abulencia; his beloved grandchildren, Justin (Jacquelyn), Jeremy (Sabrina), Caleb, Benjamin (Abbie), Zachary (Kayla), Jordyn-Lee, Jade, Kalli, and Konnor; as well as ten great-grandchildren; his brother, James (Liza) Frey; his sisters, Kathy (Michael) McGinn and Patricia (Thomas) Quartier; and his former wife, Joyce Sims, who remained an important part of his life.

Stephen was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Stephen graduated from the Christian Brothers Academy and began his career in the insurance industry at the age of 19. He owned the Frey Agency and dedicated over fifty years to it; the agency is still in the family today. Beyond his work, he will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to sobriety, his active participation in AA, and the countless lives he touched by supporting others on their journeys. He cherished his time at his camps in Bridgeport and at Brennan’s Beach, where he found joy and peace among family and friends. Stephen also had a deep appreciation for classic rock and roll, which remained a source of happiness throughout his life.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, September 30, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Traub Funeral Home in Bridgeport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 1, at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Bridgeport. Funeral services and burial will follow immediately at Hillside Cemetery in Central Square.
