Thomas S. Miles, 87 of Central Square, New York died on May 12, 2026 at The Cottages at Garden Grove in Cicero, New York following a long illness. Tom was born in Syracuse, New York on November 23, 1938, son of the late Paul J. and Amber Sills Miles. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Pamela S. Miles.
Tom was a Class of 1956 graduate of Nottingham High School in Syracuse, New York. He retired from Niagara Mohawk following 36 faithful years of service in the Survey Department. Tom was a proud and Honorably Discharged retiree of the United States Army serving in excess of 33 years, he served in the New York Army National Guard, 27th ARMD Division, 19th Special Forces Airborne and the 10th Mountain Division. Tom was a life member of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) and was past president of the Central New York Chapter. He was a member of Cicero American Legion Post 787.
Tom enjoyed wood working and had a lifetime interest in Native American Lore. In his youth he was very active in the Boys Scouts of America earning the rank of Eagle Scout, in addition he was a member of the Order of the Arrow.
He is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 65 years, the former Virginia (Ginny) Tanner, daughter, Michelle Ross (Tim), brother Paul D. Miles, grandchildren Caeden and Teagan Ross, and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held from 4:00-6:00pm on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at Traub Funeral Home, Inc. 684 North Main Street, Central Square, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30am on Friday, May 22, 2026 at Divine Mercy Parish, 592 South Main Street, Central Square, New York. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Central Square, New York.
