Victor Sanders Obituary

Victor Jacob Sanders, beloved father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, passed away on March 7, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on September 15, 1943, in Brooklyn, NY, Victor was the cherished son of Doris and Nathan Sanders and older brother to David.

Victor grew up in Brooklyn, where he developed a lifelong passion for sports, the ocean, and most notably, horses. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1965-1967, bravely deploying overseas during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, he continued to embrace the joys of life with enthusiasm.

A true sports aficionado, Victor relished every opportunity to talk sports with his son, often sharing detailed breakdowns of plays made by his favorite teams—the New York Mets, Knicks, Nets, Jets, and Big East Basketball. However, his love for sports extended beyond spectating; he actively stayed involved by playing basketball for as long as he could. He enjoyed the festivities of the Brownsville Boys Club, especially their old-timers’ day, where he got a chance to play basketball and hang out with other players.

Of all his passions, horseracing held a special place in Victor’s heart. He could often be found at Belmont and Aqueduct racetracks, placing bets, chatting with jockeys, and even snapping photos with the winning horses. He found excitement and camaraderie among fellow racing enthusiasts, always drawn to the energy of the track.

Victor also had an enduring love for the beach. A true Brooklynite, he spent countless days swimming in the waters of Manhattan Beach and Coney Island, a tradition he enjoyed. He made his home in Sheepshead Bay, where he enjoyed the salty air, good company, and many of the area’s beloved restaurants—his love for great food and dining out never waned.

By profession, Victor was a salesman, known for his charisma and humor. He spent years working in various roles, most notably at Home Depot, where he left a lasting impression on colleagues and customers alike.

Upon retirement, Victor relocated to Syracuse, NY, to be closer to his son, Spencer, and daughter-in-law, Patricia. The highlight of his later years was becoming a grandfather in 2022 to his adored granddaughter, Grace-Evangeline (Gracie). She brought him immeasurable joy, and he was in constant awe of her.

Victor’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and an appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. He will be missed but forever remembered by his family and friends.
