William G. "Bill" Barrett, 89 of Bridgeport, New York, died Friday, May 8, 2026, at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, New York, following a brief illness. William was surrounded by his loving children. "Bill" or “Billy” as he was affectionately known, was born in Bridgeport, New York, on November 7, 1936. The son of the late Conrad, Sr., and Esther Gertrude Taffner Barrett. Bill grew up on a farm on the shores of Oneida Lake. In 1952,Bill and his family opened Fisher Bay Marina which Bill owned and operated for 46 years up until his passing.
Bill was a devoted family man- as a parent, grandparent, and friend. Bill was dedicated, reliable, and funny. He was always there for those who needed him. He was known for his unwavering work ethic, his deep respect for the water, the genuine connections he formed with those around him, and his love of Syracuse sports. For him, Oneida Lake was not simply a place to live - it was his life’s calling. A dedicated marina owner, he spent decades building not only a business but a community. He poured his heart into his work, remaining actively involved at the marina until the day before his passing.
To many, the marina was more than a place- it was a relaxing sanctuary, shaped by Bill’s steady presence and a welcoming spirit. His life’s work leaves behind a lasting legacy of memories that will continue to ripple across the water he loved so dearly.
Bill was predeceased by his sister Joan Chavoustie of Bridgeport in 2004, brother Jack Barrett of Bridgeport in 2009, his sister Sheila Niederhoff of Bridgeport in 2014, and his sister Betty Bergdorf of Florida in 2023.
Bill is survived by his ex-wife, Christine Barrett of Bridgeport; his sister, Judy Barrett of Bridgeport; his six children: Laurie Smith (Jim) of North Syracuse, Lisa Miller (Frank) of Bridgeport, Mark Barrett of Florida, Jeffrey Barrett (Victoria) of Cicero, John Barrett (Kirsten) of Florida, Julie Seeber (Alex) of Illinois; his ten grandchildren, Todd and Jordan Storie, Shaun and Stephanie Maroney, Emily Adydan, and Michael Miller, Ethan and Riley Barrett, Kayla and Jenna Seeber; his eight great-grandchildren, Sofia, Leo, and Valentina Storie, Callen, Millie, and Cade Storie, Tyler Gladle, and Ailish Maroney. William is also survived by numerous other nieces, nephews, & cousins.
Calling hours will be from 4-7 pm on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Traub Funeral Home, Inc., 7975 Route 31, Bridgeport, New York. Burial will be in Pine Plains Cemetery, Kirkville, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Friday, May 15, 2026, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Bridgeport Church, 7820 NY-298, Bridgeport, New York.
