William “Bill” D. Southwick 75, of Central Square, New York passed away unexpectedly on July 8, 2024. Born in Manchester, New Hampshire on January 15, 1949, to the late Alfred and Rita Dupre Southwick.
Bill lived in Chatham, Massachusetts from early childhood. He graduated in the Chatham High school class of 1967 with many awards for his athletic excellence in soccer, baseball, and basketball. He was an honorably discharged U.S. Air Force veteran serving during the Vietnam Era. He ended his enlistment as Staff Sergeant. Bill owned and operated “Bill’s Landscaping” for over 30 years. Upon retirement he moved to the Syracuse, New York area to be closer to his youngest grandchildren.
Bill was an avid four handicap golfer who reached the pinnacle of golf, a hole in one during a fund raising tournament. Bill also loved the Fall hunting season in Maine and was especially proud of the 15-point buck that put him in the “Big Bucks Club of Maine”. He was known for tooling around Chatham in his white pickup gathering all the town’s ‘news’.
He is survived by his wife the former Julie Helmer of Central Square, New York, son, David (Donna) Southwick of Chatham, Massachusetts; daughters, Caroline (Paul) Williams of Falcon, Colorado, and Sarah (Joshua) Paduana of Central Square, New York; sister, Cyndi (Michael) Nelson of Crows Landing, California; sister-in-law, Harriet Southwick of Harwich, Massachusetts; eight grandchildren Sabrina, Dalton, Justice, Tiana, Camrie, Jaden, Cora, and Rosalie. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother Paul R. Southwick.
A memorial service will be held from 2:00-5:00pm on Saturday OCTOBER 5, 2024 at the Chatham VFW in Chatham, Massachusetts.
